โ What Is the Prepared Translator?
Prepared Translator is a real-time, automated text-to-voice translation feature that allows you to communicate directly with a caller who speaks a different languageโmost commonly Spanish. Once added to the call, the tool provides:
Live transcription of the callerโs speech in English.
Spoken translation of your typed English messages into the callerโs language.
It eliminates the need for a third-party interpreter and empowers fast, direct, and effective communication between calltakers and non-English-speaking callers.
๐ฏ Whatโs New in the July 2025 Update?
No PIN required when dialing the Translator.
One simplified language field instead of two.
Expanded language coverage: 22 languages now supported via Voice Translator.
๐ Benefits of Prepared Translator
Understand the nature of calls faster and dispatch more efficiently.
Eliminate errors and delays caused by using third-party interpreters.
Reduce hang-ups by speaking to the caller in their native language sooner.
Enable bilingual call takers to communicate with confidence.
Reduce hiring barriers in regions with high volumes of non-English calls.
๐ Supported Communication Types

|---|---|

๐ ๏ธ How to Use the Translator (No PIN Required)
1. Detect or Select a Language
Auto-detection may identify the callerโs language.
Or, you may manually select it using the language dropdown.
If the selected language is unsupported, a warning will appear.
2. Open the Incident
Navigate to the live incident involving the non-English-speaking caller.
Locate the โVoice Translatorโ button in the lower-left corner of the screen (above the message box).
3. Dial the Translator Number
Use your CHEโs phone system to dial the Translator number.
You no longer need to enter a PIN. The connection is automatic.
4. Activate the Translator
Click โAdd Translator.โ
The bot joins the call and delivers a pre-recorded message to the caller in their language:
โAn automated translator is now assisting to help us in communicating. Please stay on the line and expect brief pauses while translations are processed.โ
5. Start Communicating
Type in English in the message box.
The translated version will be shown as a preview.
When you click Send, the bot will speak the translation out loud to the caller.

๐ Troubleshooting & Testing
Common Setup Errors
Some CHEs may require no-hold conferencing.
Use auto-dial presets where possible to streamline the workflow.
To Test Internally:
Practice with bilingual staff.
Run non-emergency test calls.
Use a third-party bilingual tester like Tessa on Fiverr.
๐ Accuracy and Liability
Typed messages (from calltaker) are translated with near-perfect accuracy.
Caller audio is transcribed and translated using advanced AI, optimized for speed and clarity, not word-for-word precision.
Calltakers are responsible for confirming critical info (e.g., location, emergency type) before relaying it to dispatch.
๐ง Why Text-to-Voice Instead of Voice-to-Voice?
Reduces risks from mispronunciations, noise, and unclear speech.
Ensures consistent, professional responses in high-stress calls.
Prioritizes speed, reliability, and comprehension over literal translation.
