Overview

Prepared now supports the Axon Body-Worn Camera (BWC) Integration and Axon Body-Worn Camera Locations within the Prepared Map experience.

This integration allows dispatch centers to connect their Axon environment with Prepared so dispatchers can view officer body camera locations and statuses directly on the Prepared Map Dashboard and within incident chatrooms.

Dispatchers no longer need to switch between Prepared and other tools to monitor officer locations during active incidents.

This feature is currently available in Beta and enabled per agency.

Outcome

By completing the Axon Body-Worn Camera integration, you can:

  • Connect your Axon tenant to Prepared

  • Display officer body camera locations directly on Prepared maps

  • Monitor camera statuses in real time

  • View officer and device details from the map

  • Reduce platform switching during active incidents

  • Support a more unified, single-pane-of-glass dispatcher workflow

Prerequisites

Before enabling this feature, ensure you have:

  • Admin access to your Axon tenant portal

  • Access to the Integrations section in Prepared

  • An active Axon environment with access to the Axon Presence API

  • The feature enabled for your agency by the Prepared team

How the Integration Works

The setup process has two parts:

  1. Authenticate your dispatch center with your Axon tenant

  2. Enable Axon Body-Worn Camera Locations in Prepared

Each dispatch center can connect to multiple Axon tenants, and each Axon tenant can connect to multiple dispatch centers.

Part 1: Authenticate Your Axon Tenant

Note: This step only needs to be completed once per Axon tenant.

Step 1

Log in to the Axon portal for your tenant.

Step 2

Select Admin from the top navigation bar.

Step 3

Under Security & Integrations, select:

Third-party Applications

Step 4

Locate Prepared 911 in the Available Applications section.

Step 5

Select Enable.

A confirmation window appears once authentication is successful.

If an error occurs, contact your Prepared account team for assistance.

Important: Do not disable the Prepared 911 integration within the Axon portal without contacting the Prepared team first. Disabling the integration affects all connected dispatch centers.

Part 2: Connect Axon Presence in Prepared

Step 1

Within Prepared, navigate to:

Settings → Integrations

Step 2

Scroll to the Axon Agencies or Axon Presence section.

Step 3

If your tenant is not listed:

  1. Select Axon Body Worn Camera

  2. Enter your Axon tenant domain

  3. Select Add Domain

Step 4

If your tenant already exists:

  1. Locate the tenant in the table

  2. Open the Actions dropdown

  3. Enable Axon Body Worn Camera

Once enabled, body camera locations automatically appear on the Prepared map experience. Dispatchers do not need to install additional software or complete additional configuration.

What Dispatchers Can Do

View Officer Locations in Real Time

Dispatchers can view body-worn camera pins directly on:

  • The Prepared Map Dashboard

  • Incident chatroom maps

Pins are labeled with the officer’s badge number to improve unit visibility during incidents.

Understand Camera Status at a Glance

Each pin is color-coded based on camera status.

Open Detailed Camera Information

Selecting a camera pin displays additional details, including:

  • Officer name

  • Badge number

  • Body camera ID

  • Recording status

  • Last movement time

  • Battery level

  • Cell reception strength

Filter Cameras by Status

The Layers and Devices drawer allows dispatchers to:

  • Show or hide cameras by status

  • View live counts for each status type

  • Focus on relevant units during incidents

Note: If all status filters are unchecked, camera pins will not appear on the map.

Automatic Refresh Rates

Body camera locations refresh automatically based on activity:

  • Approximately every 5 seconds for active cameras

  • Approximately every 30 seconds for inactive cameras

Clustered Camera Pins

When multiple officers are located close together, camera pins automatically cluster into a grouped marker.

Selecting the cluster expands the individual officer pins.

Troubleshooting

Camera Pins Are Not Appearing

Verify the following:

  • The feature is enabled for the agency

  • The Axon tenant is connected in Settings → Integrations

  • At least one status filter is enabled in the Layers and Devices drawer

  • The dispatcher is viewing the correct map area

Camera Pins Disappeared During a Shift

The most common causes are:

  • All status filters were accidentally unchecked

  • The map was moved away from the officer location area

Re-enable the desired filters and confirm the map is centered on the appropriate area.
