Historical Incident Filters
Outcome
After reading this guide, you will be able to filter Historical Incidents to quickly identify the most relevant prior calls based on phone number or caller location.
Overview
The Historical Incidents feature helps you quickly determine whether the current call may relate to previous incidents. This provides valuable context that can help you ask better questions, identify repeat incidents, and give responders more accurate information.
Previously, Historical Incidents returned all matches where either:
The caller's phone number matched, OR
The caller's location was within approximately 500 feet
While this ensured broad coverage, it could also produce a large number of results, making it harder to identify the most relevant incidents.
The new Historical Incident Filters allow you to narrow results quickly using filter chips that appear at the top of the Historical Incidents panel.
These filters help you focus on the incidents most relevant to the current call.
Default Behavior
When the Historical Incidents panel opens, the system automatically applies the following filters:
Phone Number match
Exact Location match (<25 ft)
This default setting surfaces the most likely related incidents first, reducing noise while still providing helpful context.
You can change the filters at any time during the call.
Available Filters
You can filter historical incidents using the following options:
Filter | What It Shows |
Phone Number | Incidents where the caller’s phone number matches the current caller |
Exact Location (<25 ft) | Incidents that occurred within approximately 25 feet of the caller’s location |
Approximate Location (~500 ft) | Incidents that occurred within approximately 500 feet of the caller’s location |
These filters appear as interactive chips at the top of the Historical Incidents panel.
Filter Combinations
You can combine filters to refine the results shown in the panel.
Available combinations include:
Phone Number only
Exact Location (<25 ft) only
Approximate Location (~500 ft) only
Phone Number + Exact Location
Phone Number + Approximate Location
This allows you to quickly adjust the level of detail you want to see.
How to Adjust Historical Incident Filters
Open the Historical Incidents panel during a call.
Locate the filter chips at the top of the panel.
Click a filter to activate it.
Click the filter again to deactivate it.
Combine filters to narrow or expand the results shown.
The incident list updates immediately when filters are changed.
Important Filter Behavior
Location Filters Are Mutually Exclusive
The two location filters cannot be used at the same time.
Selecting <25 ft will automatically deselect ~500 ft
Selecting ~500 ft will automatically deselect <25 ft
This prevents overlapping results and keeps filtering behavior clear.
Results Are Still Sorted by Recency
Filtering does not change the sorting order.
Historical incidents continue to appear:
Most recent first
This ensures the most recent and potentially relevant incidents are displayed at the top.
How This Helps During Calls
Filtering Historical Incidents helps you quickly identify patterns or repeat activity such as:
Multiple calls from the same phone number
Repeated incidents at the same location
Activity occurring near the caller's location
Examples:
A caller reports a disturbance at an apartment complex where multiple incidents occurred earlier that week.
The same caller has contacted 911 several times for related issues.
Nearby callers previously reported gunshots or suspicious activity in the same area.
Having this context helps you:
Ask more informed questions
Provide responders with better situational awareness
Reduce duplicate call handling time
Open Beta Availability
This feature is currently available as an Open Beta.
Centers can request access while the feature is being evaluated prior to full release.
The beta period allows teams to:
Confirm that results match expectations
Ensure the filters are intuitive to use
Provide feedback on the experience
Frequently Asked Questions
Question | Answer |
Why don’t I see both location filters active at the same time? | The <25 ft and ~500 ft filters are mutually exclusive. Selecting one automatically deselects the other. |
I selected a location filter but no incidents appear. | There may not be incidents within that distance range. Try switching location filters or removing the location filter entirely. |
The count at the top of the panel does not change when I filter. | The badge shows the total number of related incidents, not the filtered count. |
Why do I still see the same incidents after changing filters? | If all incidents match the selected filter criteria, the visible results may not change. |
I don’t see the Historical Incidents panel. | The panel only appears when the system detects related incidents for the current call. |
Best Practices
Start with the default filters to quickly see the most relevant incidents.
Use Phone Number only when investigating repeat callers.
Use <25 ft when confirming incidents at the exact location.
Use ~500 ft when checking for nearby activity or neighborhood trends.
Toggle filters during the call to quickly explore additional context.
